Make choices

about the changes you want to make  in your life

Hello, my name is Renate James
At Change, you will find a safe and confidential place to talk about your life, including the confusing, painful and uncomfortable things.

What's important to me as a therapist about the changes you can make as a result of therapy?

Autonomy: To realise our full potential as grown-ups, we need to update the strategies for dealing with life, which we decided upon as infants. When we find that these strategies are no longer working for us, we need to replace them with new strategies, which do work.
Leading to the capacity for:
Awareness: To live in the present moment, perceiving it without interruption.
Spontaneity: The ability to put aside familiar, well-exercised options, and choose according to what seems to fit the moment.
Intimacy: Being able to expose our vulnerability to others. Showing how we really think, feel and behave without the need to mask ourselves in what we imagine the other person wants or can cope with. Being prepared to meet and listen to the other without being impeded by our own wants or needs.
Why choose
Change Counselling Service?
As you’re reading this, chances are you’re researching counsellors and you’ll have come across a wide variety of counselling methods and disciplines across Romsey and Salisbury already. I offer counselling in Salisbury based on a Humanistic approach called Transactional Analysis Theory. This highly sophisticated method of counselling is an easily accessible and easy to follow theory of modern psychology.

I also incorporate elements from Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Analytic therapy. Everyone is different and increasing research shows that no single method is sufficient for successful counselling and psychotherapy. When you come to me for your counselling, my approach will be adapted to fit you, and you will not be squeezed into any rigid way of working.

At Change Counselling Service, you can expect that your views and needs will always be respected. My counselling in Salisbury is designed to treat you with innate goodness and decency, helping you to change your life in a positive way.New paragraph
I will help you to examine your responses to situations and events in a positive and healthy way. It can be difficult to process our feelings when we think there are ‘acceptable’ and ‘unacceptable’ responses, but with the help of Change Counselling Service, you will be empowered to choose responses that reflect who you are and your current lifestyle.

I’ll help you to discover peace of mind as you encounter life’s random events, overcoming them with a strong sense of self.

I truly believe that counselling offers true, positive change if you have motivation, your counsellor is using the best approach, realistic goals are set and you’re offered enough support.
